Dow falls 250 points on losses in shares of Dow Inc., Travelers

The Dow Jones Industrial Average is trading down Thursday morning with shares of Dow Inc. and Travelers delivering the stiffest headwinds for the price-weighted average. Shares of Dow Inc. DOW, -3.25% and Travelers TRV, -2.35% have contributed to the blue-chip gauge’s intraday decline, as the Dow DJIA, -0.31% was most recently trading 252 points lower (-0.8%). Dow Inc.’s shares have fallen $2.09, or 4.0%, while those of Travelers have declined $5.83, or 3.7%, combining for an approximately 52-point drag on the Dow. Other components contributing significantly to the decline include Verizon Communications Inc. VZ, -2.69%, Walgreens Boots WBA, -1.90%, and IBM IBM, -2.90%. A $1 move in any of the index’s 30 components equates to a 6.59-point swing.
