Dow falls nearly 50 points on losses for shares of Amgen Inc., Verizon Communications Inc.

Shares of Amgen Inc. and Verizon Communications Inc. are trading lower Tuesday afternoon, dragging the Dow Jones Industrial Average into negative territory. The Dow DJIA, -0.04% was most recently trading 49 points lower (-0.1%), as shares of Amgen Inc. AMGN, -1.86% and Verizon Communications Inc. VZ, -1.58% have contributed to the blue-chip gauge’s intraday decline. Amgen Inc.’s shares are off $4.10, or 2.0%, while those of Verizon Communications Inc. have dropped $0.92, or 1.8%, combining for an approximately 33-point drag on the Dow. Other components contributing significantly to the decline include Johnson & Johnson JNJ, -1.29%, Intel INTC, -1.60%, and IBM IBM, -1.18%. A $1 move in any of the index’s 30 components equates to a 6.58-point swing.
