Politics is ‘not equipped’ to deal with climate change as it is ‘thinking in five-year cycles’

Sky’s Trevor Phillips says one of the biggest issues with tackling climate change is that politics is simply “not equipped” to deal with long-term problems.

“When I talk to politicians, they can’t talk about what it will look like in 2050,” he says, as they are “thinking in five-year cycles rather than 50-year ones”.

He says that with many new renewable technologies, it involves spending a lot of money before “anything comes out of it”.

Pointing to the investment in nuclear energy, he says we are only starting to see its impact decades later.
