In his 25-year career in Stock Markets, Zee Business Managing Editor Anil Singhvi has seen many cycles and massive rises and falls. So, what was the year 2020 like for the Market Guru? Is it the most eventful year in his career?

The Managing Editor said that the most eventful year for him was 2008 when the Lehman Brothers crisis unfolded. That was the first big experience of the markets where, as a journalist he experienced the crisis minute-by-minute and lived it. The crisis witnessed market collapse followed by how Central Banks pitched in to handle the crisis, he said.

But that was a one-sided event where the movement was only downwards.

He however, said that the learnings of 2020 are unparalleled in many ways. Elaborating on this, Singhvi said that in the 2020 market collapse, the learnings of 2008 came in as very handy. The learnings of that time helped him to deal with market uncertainties, he said. The Market Guru said that he witnessed the 2000 recession crisis too, but the learning was not so profound as was the case in 2008 and that helped him in dealing with the pandemic-related crisis in 2020.

However, notably, the Market Guru said the biggest learning has been from 2020 recovery. The pace at which this recovery has happened in 2020 is unprecedented. How to deal with the changing times by using the old data is a lesson learnt in 2020.

The biggest satisfaction of 2020 has been the kind of research work done, whether the markets were up or down. The tremendous data exercise done by the Zee Business channel was to prepare a formula for finding the bottom of the markets. This particular exercise required a very meticulous work and it worked to the satisfaction of the entire team, Singhvi added.

2020 has been a year of learnings and earnings as well, the Market Guru emphasised. The markets gave opportunities to trade both ways, so, it has been a good year, he concluded.
